Galaxy Quest Star Party Cancelled

The star party originally scheduled for Galaxy Quest Observatory in Lincolnville this weekend is hereby cancelled. Although we have never cancelled due to cold before, it seems prudent now, with the warnings of dangerous wind chills throughout the region. Lincolnville tonight (Friday, January 3, 2014) is expected to have invitingly clear skies, but a wind chill of -34°F. Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy, with a wind chill of -11°F. Sunday will see ice pellets and snow, with a -10°F wind chill. The current storm system has lingered in its passage over Maine, so it’s hard to say just when the cold and winds will stop, but with none of the predictions for the weekend at all hopeful, we do not anticipate last-minute opportunities to reschedule for this weekend. Rescheduling for next weekend is not suitable, due to the fullness of the Moon.

The next star party is scheduled for the weekend of February 1, with a start time of 6:00pm. It was originally scheduled for DRA, but we may switch the locations to catch up with the missed night at Galaxy Quest.

Hope you all settle in for a warm cup of cocoa and dreams of clear skies!
