Work Day at Brower Observatory

The work day at Brower Observatory is especially important. Our observatory needs maintenance. It is no longer completely watertight, but seeps in rain and snowmelt. To fix it before it outright leaks, we’ll be replacing the roofing shingles, fixing flashings in the walls and dome, and installing a new door. Please help us on Saturday, July 23. If you can not start at 10:00am, arrive when you can. If you have no skills as a builder, please help anyway. There will be many important tasks requiring only willing hands. There will (may?) be a casual star party afterward. Some hours may have passed since the work day ended, but as an incentive, if we’re still there, we’ll observe some planets, despite a bright moon rising just as darkness falls.

One of our newest members has promised to bring a roofing nail gun, staging, a compressor, and his considerable skills as a carpenter. An outpouring of supporting hands to make those tools sing could make this the most productive work day ever. Join us! Your hands are needed.
