I plan to build a top hatch on the other side next spring. Survived surgery but not able to climb up to dome for a while.

Yes; extraordinarily cool, and beautifully built. Is it possible to point the scope straight up at the zenith? The hatch does not open clear to the top of the dome, but there may be a way to flip the scope on the mount so that it hangs off center and points straight up anyway.

I had a good time at the meeting a couple of months ago. Unfortunately I have a heart condition that has prevented me from attending star parties and I will be having triple by-pass surgery on Dec 15 which will put me out of commission for the rest of the winter. Hopefully I will be a new man by spring and I can return to club meetings.

Omicron Leonis grazing occultation: Coastal Maine was cloud covered so no one mobilized in the early AM. A few heads poked out around 0345 to confirm. Many thanks to Colin Caissie, Jon Silverman, Max Arnold and prospective member Dave Emery from Tenants Harbor for their interest in observing this event. I think we learned a lot about the logistics and planning required so it was not a waste of time. As a point of interest, it turned out there was a Cloudy Nights member from Texas visiting Portland this weekend. He had contacted me and wanted to travel to Alna to observe with us if the weather would have cooperated.
