Simulated Transit of Venus

CMAS member Michael Kosowsky has written a superb eclipse simulator for his Web site, HeyWhatsThat.com. Because a transit shares all the same mechanics with an eclipse, albeit with a tiny planet instead of a big Moon able to block the Sun, we are forever spared the need to be in the right place at the right time, without clouds. Michael would be the first to admit it won’t give the same feeling as seeing it live with our own eyes, but his simulator is still something every CMASer should see. Set the map on the left to anywhere in the world you desire (it will default to your curren location), then click the green band showing hours to advance the transit over time:
