CMAS October 5 DRA Star Party Cancelled

Greetings from The Bearer of Evil Tidings!

We’re canceling tonight’s star party at DRA, due to weather reports for lots of clouds, high humidity, and rotten transparency. Looking at various weather maps, thick banks of clouds are hovering just offshore. If the winds push those clouds just a few miles north, the sky will not be visible from Damariscotta. Whether we have too many clouds or workable collections of sucker holes, the best case predicts terrible transparency and high humidity. If any nearby members decide to try their luck at DRA, it may be possible to split a few bright double stars, but all the planets will have set by nightfall, and deep space objects will be obscured.

We hate to cancel and don’t need perfect weather, but for the significant distances so many members drive, conditions ought to be good enough. Even a squall suits the fun times had in the past on cloudy nights in restaurants in Lincolnville and Damariscotta, and in member’s houses, so we’re going to try another twist to our scheduling. Every two to three months, let’s agree to meet socially, even if the weather quells the observing. Miss ya all. Gotta defy the clouds, and meet more often! Watch your mailbox for a proposed schedule.
