Star Party at Great Salt Bay Farm
110 Belvedere Road, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
* Earlier setup always welcome!
With the weather forecasts splitting the difference between perfectly and almost clear skies, who could resist a warm summer night of observing at a favorite scenic location? Set those tripod legs on the ground at Damariscotta’s Great Salt Bay Farm tomorrow. Sun sets late, but we ought to be able to see at least Jupiter and Saturn by 9:00pm. Deep sky may not begin until 10:00pm, but that’s life in summer. Makes you long for those clear, cold winter nights, when observing begins and ends early, doesn’t it? We admit: One forecast (Meteoblue) is skeptical, so watch for a confirmation in the afternoon before the observing begins.
Great Salt Bay Farm is the same location that we always called “DRA” in the past. Now that the Damariscotta River Association has merged to form the larger Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, we thought we’d help them along with their new identity by adopting the name this observing site has always had, but that we CMASians never used.
If anyone is interested in dinner before observing, drop a line to the Presidential Hotline!
