Our fellow astronomer, CMAS’s own Gerry Flanagan, moonlights as a musician, playing Baroque music on the lute and theorbo. The program explores some of the forms in 17th century music that placed innovative variations on top of repeating structures, and finishes with a dance suite. Gerry plays a reproduction Baroque lute based on an instrument from 1730, and also a theorbo from about 1610. Everyone is invited to this truly astronomical event that even clouds can not stop. Join us to hear a real star make historic music featuring sounds that are rarely heard in the 21st Century. Admission is free. Besides, the store hosting the recital looks to be fascinating. Maybe there is an old Alvin Clark telescope hiding in there, waiting to be bought for a song!
