Southern Maine Astronomers has invited CMAS to join them tonight in Harpswell. Rob Burgess, president of SMA, explains:

This is a joint effort with the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust: some coalition building to demonstrate the quality of the skies at Mitchell Field with an eye to seeking an International DarkSky Association designation for the site at a future date. It starts early at 5:30pm to allow some proselytizing on light pollution in twilight, then onto the crescent moon, planets, ISS fly over, and then some dark sky observing. Fingers crossed on the forecast. Hope some of your guys can make it!

George J. Mitchell Field is a long, rambling park. We will be near the water, across the street and down a bit from the bandstand, immediately across from the jetty. If you see Pammy’s Ice Cream Parlor, you are at the wrong end of the park. Use the links above for correct directions.
Weather forecasts are mixed. Despite today’s thick clouds here in Augusta, specialized astronomy forecasts predict clear skies later. Regular forecasts mostly predict clouds. Given how soon the party starts, there will be no further messages sent about it, so watch the forecasts and make your own calls.
