There are a few problems with meeting this weekend at DRA as previously proposed.
First, there will likely be nothing to see. The Clear Sky Chart predicts that not just Damariscotta, but all of Maine, will be socked in under heavy clouds for the next few days. Weather maps show clouds already covering a vast swath of the Eastern United States, and blowing toward us.
Second, Bridgit and I are not entirely well yet after prolonged exposure to the flu. The club is welcome to meet without us, but it may be better if we did not to go gallivanting in the cold until we toughen up a bit.
Finally and most importantly, it appears folks are unavailable this weekend. The two who responded to the Doodle poll are welcome to meet at DRA if the clouds allow, or they may prefer to meet closer to their homes if no one else plans to join them. That’s the beauty of Doodle polls. No one drives an hour, just to discover no one else is there!
Any hopeful astronomers who would want to meet this weekend if the weather miraculously cleared, or who would like to meet next weekend under a half-full Moon (on or around Saturday, January 19th) , please get in touch, and I’ll see what can be arranged.
