6:30pm — Volunteers arrive to set up

7:00pm — Demonstration of telescopes in the roundhouse

8:00pm — Train departs Sheepscot Station

9:00pm — Train returns to Sheepscot Station

The 7:00pm start time is firm. The times for the train ride are approximate.

This event will run as planned. Read on to see how it has been adapted to fit the expected rainy weather. Do not buy a ticket for the train, because as volunteers from CMAS, we will ride free as the railway’s guests.

Note that the separate 6:00pm help session has been canceled. We are still meeting at Sheepscot Station at the address shown above, not at Alna Center Station as we have for prior star parties at the railroad.

At 7:00pm in the roundhouse, CMAS will host an indoor demonstration of different kinds of telescopes and how to use them, along with a discussion of the basic features seen on the Moon. Long-time CMASians will recall that we have done this before, with great success. A similar event at Merryspring in Camden was memorable.

Sometime around 8:00pm, we will board the train. The railroad’s most luxurious, fully enclosed, weather-tight cars will be lit by kerosene lamps, for a romantic ride into nightfall.

If you are among the volunteers that CMAS has already recruited for this event, please confirm with a call, text, or email that you have received this message. If you are new to volunteering for the event, welcome! Please confirm that you will be joining us. The 6:00pm start time is intended for ticket-holders. Volunteers should arrive earlier, by 6:30pm, so that there will be time to set up telescopes and discuss plans for the demonstrations before the 7:00pm start time.
