Transit Parties for June 5

With clouds and rain expected for the rest of this week, we may miss this transit. Then again, we need only the briefest break at exactly the right hour to see the Black Drop, so one never knows. For something so rare, we’ll be ready, even if it’s looking unlikely.

There has been almost no response to the email sent last week. I’m taking this to mean that no one near Lewiston or Augusta needs a special site nearby in order to drive to a solar scope after work to see the transit before it’s too late. Unless I hear otherwise, I will not be setting up a special site in Winthrop, unless clouds near Brower favor miraculous clarity on Metcalf Road (the hill behind the Rite Aid). If I head there with the club’s solar telescope, I’ll send a last-minute email. Otherwise, I’ll be at the cemetary near Brower Observatory. Galaxy Quest will also be open, weather permitting.
