Foss Hill Observatory
64 Foss Hill Lane, Rome, Maine 04963
A “flashmob” is a star party called at short notice. Tonight’s sky is forecast to be about as clear, dry, and steady as we ever see in Maine, so join us at Foss Hill. CMAS has a new 2-inch Oxygen-3 filter that should greatly improve views of the faint Veil Nebula, so come help us inaugurate even better views from the big 16-inch Dob!
If you have a lot to set up or you want to watch and learn as we prepare tonight’s telescopes, arrive as early as 6:00pm. Arrive a bit later if you prefer. It will be dark enough to begin seeing the first stars by 7:00pm, with full darkness arriving just after 7:30pm.
Find the gravel road to the observatory just to the right of Josh’s paved driveway at the end of Foss Hill Lane. Get your driving directions from the link above. Typing the address into other mapping software may get you lost.
